Dalcroze Eurhythmics for Seniors
For Brain Health and Better Balance
This workshop is for Dalcroze teachers, music teachers, music therapists, movement or dance teachers, and anyone who is interested in or who interacts with senior citizens in music or movement based situations. Specific Dalcroze Eurhythmics exercises for the senior population and the rationale for them will be discussed and demonstrated. Workshop participants will have opportunities to do the exercises. There will be discussion following each activity with opportunities for participants to give feedback and add ideas.
Leslie Purcell Upchurch is a Licensed Dalcroze Eurhythmics instructor with positions at two leading Dalcroze training centers in the United States. She has been teaching for the Marta Sanchez Dalcroze Training Center at Carnegie Mellon University since 2003 and at the Dalcroze School at Lucy Moses since 2014. Ms. Upchurch has a vital role in teaching and promoting Dalcroze in the greater NYC area. She teaches upwards of 100 children in weekly Dalcroze or Dalcroze based classes at the Lucy Moses School, maintains a private piano studio, and is the founder of Dalcroze NYC.
Dalcroze for Seniors is a course Leslie teaches for the Wellness Program at JCCManhattan. In this work she has devised a program that both addresses concerns seniors have and is enjoyable for the participants. Ms. Upchurch’s work also includes teacher-training workshops for public and private school teachers. In these workshops the Dalcroze Eurhythmics process is customized to fit the situation and facilities that the teachers have. Her extensive experience with students from 18 months through senior citizens in every type of setting enables her to guide all music teachers.
All regular workshops are $20 for members of the Dalcroze Society of America, $40 for non-members. Student rates are $10 for members of the DSA, $20 for non-members. Please show a valid Student ID.
